There are moments in the process of becoming when clarity doesn’t come from what is said, but from what is withheld.
Sometimes, someone will reach out just enough to remind you that you still matter.
Not enough to stay.
Not enough to explain.
Just enough to leave a trace of themselves behind.
And in that space, confusion begins.
Because the connection felt real.
The consistency felt intentional.
And for a moment, it seemed like something steady was finally forming.
Until it wasn’t.
He didn’t disappear completely.
He didn’t close the door.
He simply stepped back and called it protection.
Said he didn’t want to “drag her into anything.”
But what she felt wasn’t protection.
It was the absence of choice.
Because care doesn’t only show up in words.
It shows up in clarity.
In presence.
In allowing someone to decide how close they’re willing to stand.
And instead, she was left holding a message that said:
“I care about you… but from a distance.”
There was a time in her life when she would have chased the meaning.
Tried to understand every word.
Filled in the silence with her own explanations.
But she doesn’t live there anymore.
Now she understands something deeper.
That someone can care about you
and still not show up in a way that feels safe.
That someone can reach for you
and still not be ready to hold you.
And that distance—no matter how gently it’s explained—
is still distance.
So instead of questioning herself,
she chose something different.
She chose to stay where she was.
Grounded.
Clear.
Still moving forward.
Because becoming isn’t just about opening your heart.
It’s about recognizing
when someone else isn’t able to meet you there.
And having the strength
not to follow them back into uncertainty.
